FREE THANKSGIVING CRAFT AND IDEAS
Thanksgiving is a wonderful celebration, mainly focused on family. When we get together, there are always lots of kids. Sometimes my friends bring their children, too, and it becomes a great time for my girls to meet new friends. The kids love playing games, but they also enjoy making crafts, which is a fun and engaging activity. They can create on their own or use it as an icebreaker to connect with other children. One of their favorite things to make is hats, and for Thanksgiving, a turkey paper hat is the perfect craft! They have a fantastic time creating their hats, and they even wear them to play. My daughter likes to create a whole turkey family with different hats—mom, dad, and kids—and then make up stories and role-play games with them.
I’ve included a free Thanksgiving craft template for creating a turkey hat! Just print it out, color it, trim, and glue or tape it together. You can download it here.
Turkey Hat Template Tips:
I recommend using white cardstock for sturdiness. You’ll need scissors, a glue stick or white glue, and coloring materials like crayons or colored pencils. While there are traditional turkey colors, let your child use their imagination to color it however they like!
I’ve included some rectangular extensions for the hat. If the crown needs to be larger, simply print, cut, and attach these extensions to the ends of the crown.
Remember, perfection isn’t important—what matters most is having fun and creating memories together!
Other Thanksgiving Craft Ideas:
Thankful Tree: Create a "Thankful Tree" where kids write something they’re grateful for on paper leaves. Attach the leaves to a tree branch or a paper tree. This is a meaningful craft that can be used as a table centerpiece and helps kids reflect on gratitude.
Pumpkin Pie Garland: Using orange and brown construction paper, kids can cut out “pumpkin pie slices.” They can add cotton balls for whipped cream, and string the slices together to make a festive garland.
Handprint Turkeys: This classic craft uses a child’s handprint as the turkey’s body. They can decorate the feathers with fun colors and designs, making each turkey unique.
Leaf Print Art: Collect fall leaves and use washable paint to create leaf prints on paper. It’s a simple craft that gives a nature-inspired feel and makes beautiful Thanksgiving artwork.
Paper Plate Pilgrim Hats: With just paper plates, construction paper, and a few simple supplies, kids can make mini Pilgrim hats to wear or use as decorations.
DIY Thanksgiving Place Cards: Kids can create place cards for the Thanksgiving table by decorating folded pieces of cardstock with their favorite Thanksgiving-themed drawings (turkeys, pumpkins, etc.) and adding each guest’s name.
